SEND-Tech HACK

Accelerating Inclusive EdTech Innovation

📍 Dyson School of Design Engineering, Imperial College London, South Kensington
📅 Sunday, 1st June 2024

Students: 10:00–18:30

⏰ Educators: 13:00–18:30

⏰ Guests: 16:30–18:30

Join us for a one-day hackathon tackling real-world challenges in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Work in teams to create meaningful EdTech solutions, guided by mentors and inspired by scenarios submitted by educators and education industry experts.

Students with SEND face unique barriers to learning — from inaccessible digital tools to one-size-fits-all teaching approaches. Despite growing innovation in education technology, many solutions still fail to consider the diverse ways students learn, communicate, and experience the classroom. This leaves a significant number of learners without the tools they need to thrive.

That’s where you come in.

By designing with inclusion in mind, we can create solutions that don’t just “work for most,” but truly work for all. The ideas you generate here could directly impact real students, educators, and families — helping to build a more promising future for education.

Pre-Hackathon Activities

Before the big day, we’re kicking things off with community-led preparation.

Educators are invited to submit real problem scenarios based on their experience supporting students with SEND. These challenges will shape the hackathon itself — giving teams real-world issues to solve.

We’ll also be hosting a pre-event webinar to present the problem scenarios and support team formation.

Let's Hack

One the day, we will start with a short welcome, team formation, and an interactive workshop introducing the challenge areas and inclusive design principles.

Teams will then move through several fast-paced “design and build sprints”.

You’ll have support throughout the day from educators, SEND specialists, and innovation mentors.
We’ll wrap up with short no-slides team presentations, judge feedback, and time to network over refreshments!

Post-Hackathon INCUBATION

This hackathon is just the start.

We’re committed to helping impactful ideas grow beyond the event — and we’ll support standout teams to develop their solutions further through:

🚀Venture programs to help take your team from prototype to pilot to market launch

🤝 Access to our network of investors, SEND specialists, and EdTech professionals

✅ Ongoing mentoring from leading industry experts

🧠 Access to webinars and learning resources from global strategy coaches
